Council for Agricultural Research and Economics

The Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) is Italy’s leading public research institution in agriculture, with a network of specialized centers covering environment, engineering, food systems, and fruit crops. CREA brings strong expertise in agroecology, ecosystem services assessment, and participatory methodologies, including multi-actor platforms and living labs.

Role in the Project
CREA leads WP3 and contributes significantly to the biophysical dimension of AGROFORESTEAM:

WP3 – Co-design and Monitoring of Agroforestry Systems: CREA coordinates the participatory design and scientific monitoring of agroforestry systems, including soil health, biodiversity, and agronomic performance. It also supports the implementation of co-designed trials and the evaluation of spontaneous flora dynamics. CREA also contributes to:
WP1, by documenting existing agroforestry practices and barriers to adoption.
WP2, by supporting the development of multi-actor platforms in Italy.
WP4, by participating in the economic and environmental assessment of agroforestry systems.
WP5, by implementing communication and dissemination strategies in Italy.
