Institut des Régions Arides

The Arid Regions Institute (IRA) in Tunisia is a public research institution specializing in desertification control, pastoral systems, and biodiversity conservation. IRA contributes deep knowledge on plant adaptation to arid conditions, ecosystem services, and rangeland management. Its work combines ecological, physiological, and socio-economic research, making it a key partner for silvopastoral agroforestry in dryland environments.

Role in the Project
IRA contributes extensive expertise in silvopastoral systems and climate adaptation:

Leads tasks in WP3, focused on biodiversity and ecosystem services in arid regions.
Participates in WP1, by documenting traditional grazing systems.
Supports WP2, by developing a MAP in Tunisia.
Contributes to WP4, by providing data for environmental impact assessments.
Engages in WP5, by promoting outreach and stakeholder engagement.
