As part of its commitment to promoting sustainable agroforestry practices and multi-actor dialogue spaces, AGROFORESTEAM is proud to showcase the Tertúlias do Montado initiative, which in 2025 continued to stand out as a key reference for discussions on Montado management in the Mediterranean region.
The Tertúlias do Montado are regular meetings that, since 2016, foster knowledge exchange among farmers, researchers, public administration, policy makers and other stakeholders, addressing topics define by the participants that include issues around climate resilience, biodiversity, and the economic sustainability of this agroforestry systems. This initiative is a space for reflecting on the challenges and opportunities faced by the Montado, a unique ecosystem that combines production and conservation.
The initiative is led by the University of Évora, through the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) and the associated laboratory Med Change, under the coordination of researcher Helena Guimarães.
