AGROFORESTEAM aims to support the adoption of agroforestry systems across Mediterranean regions by establishing territorialized multi-actor platforms (MAPs), grounded in the Living Lab approach. These platforms will serve as inclusive spaces for collaboration, co-creation, and knowledge exchange among farmers, researchers, policymakers, businesses, and civil society. AGROFORESTEAM is not just a research project, it is a transformative initiative towards agriculture and sustainable territorial management in the Mediterranean. To achieve this vision, the project is structured around seven specific objectives that guide its scientific, technical, and social actions.
Connect diverse stakeholders to share knowledge, build skills, and promote agroforestry benefits and solutions.
Document real agroforestry cases and co-create locally adapted practices with farmers and communities.
Demonstrate agroforestry’s environmental, agronomic, and socio-economic benefits through targeted research and reporting.
Explore traditional local agroforestry practices to inspire locally adapted sustainable solutions.
Develop practical learning tools and trainings tailored to farmers’ needs and regional contexts.
Support sustainable agroforestry businesses that add value and ensure long-term economic viability.
Disseminate results and collaborate with sister projects to expand impact and share technologies
AGROFORESTEAM brings together a highly interdisciplinary consortium composed of 10 research institutions from Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. Each partner contributes complementary expertise in agroforestry, soil restoration, socio-economic analysis, environmental assessment, territorial governance, communication, and stakeholder engagement.
